One of the greatest pleasures in group drinking is the traditional
beer game.
One of the greatest problems in implementing said pleasure is, of course,
that one is usually drunk when one learns the rules, so they tend to slip
away into the ether by the time you're read for another game. In an effort
to codify and assist the pleasure-seeker in you, we present the new
archive of beer games. You are more than welcome to submit a game to
us, please make sure it follows the format below, please. Oh, and since
most of the games involve heavy drinking, we can't actually ask you to
drink responsibly, but do so with friends, and know your limit, folks!

Name:
Quarters
submitted by: Matt Rank, [email protected]
Object:
Use dexterity to bounce quarters into cup to gain the power to
assign drinks to another player, hence speeding along their state of
inebriation.
Length of Play:
As long as you can tell the difference between a quarter and a
Susan B. Anthony dollar coin.
Number of players:
2-6 (1 is boring, and 7+ is verrry slow)
Equipment:
A quarter (unless your last quarter went to purchase the beer, then
any coin is fine, check under the couch)
A cup (non-breakable)
Horizontal table top
Beer
* Don't use a glass table-top, trust us.
Preparation:
Place non-breakable cup in center of table so that all players are
approximately equidistant from the cup. Get someone to pony up
the quarter.
Game Play:
The first player (the owner of the quarter) tries to insert the quarter
into the cup via one of three methods. He can either bounce the
quarter off the table top, he can stand up and roll the quarter off his
nose, or he can stand back and throw the quarter from a distance.
If the quarter ends up in the cup (doesn't bounce out), the player
then assigns a drink to any other player, who drinks from their own
damn beer. The player continues until he misses. The coin is then
passed to the player to the left (That's clockwise for people in the
Northern hemisphere).
Winning the Game:
Last man standing rules apply.
Optional Rules:
1.If the player "shooting" the coin scores consecutive hits, then he
may assign multiple drinks to other players. Example: Upon Bill's
3rd consecutive quarter in a cup, he deals out 2 drinks to Jill, and
one drink to Jack.
2.When a player makes 3 consecutive quarters in the cup, he may
make a "rule" which all players, including the rulemaker, must
follow. Example: After Bill's 3rd shot in, he makes the rule that if a
player bounces the quarter off the edge of the table, the offending
player must take 2 drinks. Be creative!
Tips:
It's often fun to gang up on one poor bastard by having everyone
assign their drinks to him, it's good fun to watch. Check for
cheaters who raise their beer and only *pretend* to drink!
Name:
Chandelier
submitted by: Matt Rank, [email protected]
Object:
Use dexterity to bounce quarters into cups to gain the power to
assign drinks to other players, hence speeding along their state of
inebriation. Similar to Quarters, with more cups.
5-8 cups (non-breakable)
Horizontal table top
Beer
* Don't use a glass table-top, trust us.
Preparation:
Place largest non-breakable cup in center so that all players are
approximately equidistant from the cup. Then place remaining cups
around central cup, touching the cup, until there is a ring of cups
arond the central cup. Get someone to pony up the quarter.
Game Play:
The first player (the owner of the quarter) tries to insert the quarter
into one of the cups via one of three methods. He can either
bounce the quarter off the table top, he can stand up and roll the
quarter off his nose, or he can stand back and throw the quarter
from a distance. Here's where the game differs from the classic
Quarters game. If the quarter ends up in the central cup (and
doesn't bounce out), the player assigns 3 drinks to other players
(can spread the assigned drinks across multiple players). If the
quarter ends in one of the cups ringing the central cup, the player is
given 1 drink to assign another player. The player continues until he
misses. The coin is then passed to the player to the right (That's
counter-clockwise for people in the Southern hemisphere).
Winning the Game:
Last man standing rules apply.
Optional Rules:
1.If the player "shooting" the coin scores consecutive hits, then he
may assign multiple drinks to other players. Example: Upon Bill's
3rd consecutive quarter in an outer cup, he deals out 2 drinks to
Jill, and one drink to Jack.
Name:
Speed Quarters
Object:
High-speed action to get those sleepy drunks awake. This involves
some dexterity and occassional beer-spillage, so don't play on
carpet when possible.
Length of Play:
Depends on how drunk players are to start.
Number of players:
7 or more
Equipment:
2 Quarters (or 2 same-value coins)
2 cups (non-breakable)
Horizontal table top
Beer
Preparation:
Seat players equidistant around the table. Assign two players on
opposite sides of the circle to start, each with a cup and quarter.
Game Play:
A 3rd player begins the game by saying, "Start yer engines." Each
player holding a cup and quarter now places his cup down in front
of him and attempts to bounce the quarter off the table-top into the
cup. He continues until successful, a t which time he quickly passes
the cup or "clears it" (with quarter inside) to the player to his left.
Game play continues in this fashion with the cups being passed
around the circle. Game play stops when a player is unable to
"clear" the cup before the second cup is passed to him. At this
point the player must take a big drink before the game is reset a nd
continues.
Winning the Game:
When the worst player drops out because he keeps getting stuck
with the cups and drinking, leaving too few players to continue.
Optional Rules:
If the player shooting makes the quarter into the cup on his first
attempt, he may then assign a drink (after passing the cup) to
another player not currently shooting into the cup.
Name:
The Bob Game
submitted by: The BilFish, [email protected]
Object:
To drink every time the name 'Bob' is spoken until you can't hear
the word 'Bob.'
Length of Play:
Length of American sit-com, 1/2 hour.
Number of players:
As many as you can cram around a 12" b&w TV. If you have a
large color TV, estimate the above number of people. If you have
a projection TV, stadium seating is required.
Equipment:
TV (12" b&w or better)
Bob cable channel (anything with the Bob NewHart show playing,
or any show where they say 'Bob' a lot)
Beer
Preparation:
All players must sit their asses down in front of the 12" b&w TV
(or better), with beer in hand.
Game Play:
Everyone must drink every time the word 'Bob' is heard spoken
aloud (Deaf people must drink when everyone else drinks and are
not allowed to yell out 'Bob' randomly).
Winning the Game:
The person still sitting in front of the TV and still interested in the
program.
Optional Rules:
Add other names or words. For example, each time someone
swears, the first person to notice can assign a drink for each cuss
word.
Bob Bob Bob Bob
NOTE: If you read these rules out-loud, then you now owe us 12
drinks, so get pounding!
Name:
Fuzzy Duck
submitted by: Matt Rank, [email protected]
Object:
Heavy Drinking to cause slurred speech of a simple children's
rhyme, hence requiring more drink. Note: many words rhyme with
duck, as Mother Goose well knows...
Skill Level:
Can you say "fuzzy duck?" I knew that you could!
Length of Play:
Depending on whether you're sipping or slamming beer, and the
number of players, anywhere from 1/2 hour to 2 hours (2hrs, 5 min
is the record time we've heard of for coherently being able to
continue the game)
Number of players:
Whatever. If you care, don't play this game.
Equipment:
Beer
Preparation:
Just remember 3 phrases: "Fuzzy Duck," "Ducky Fuzz," and "Does
He?" (Don't ask me, I don't know what it means either. 'Course, I
was drunk when I learned the game, so...)
Game Play:
The first player begins by saying "Fuzzy Duck" to the player on his
left. The next player has two choices. In response to this phrase,
he can either say 1) "Fuzzy Duck" or 2) "Does he?" If this player
says "Fuzzy Duck," play continues to the left with the next player
having the same two choices. If he decides to say "Does he?" then
the direction of play is reversed and continued in the opposite
direction.
If a player says anything other than the two allowed phrases
correctly, he must take a drink. Play then continues with the
drinking player (ergo, the linguistic moron) starting off. Also, there
is a 2-drink penalty for cursing. Remember, this is a wholesome
family game.
Strategy:
Use head bobs, fakes, and hand gestures to find out who the
morons are.
Optional Rules:
Play Australia-rules "Fuzzy Duck" where the game phrase goes to
the person on the right (counter-clockwise) and "Ducky Fuzz" is a
call for the player on the left (clockwise) to scream "Ducky Fuzz".
It's that whole Coriolis Effect.
Name:
100 Shots
submitted by: Todd Chapple, [email protected]
Object:
To drink one ounce of beer every minute for 100 minutes. (It's not
as easy as you think)
Skill Level:
For well established, heavy drinkers.
Length of Play:
100 minutes (1 hr, 40 minutes) exactly.
Number of players:
At least 2; if you play by yourself , call AA. The more, the merrier.
Equipment:
Beer - 9 12 oz. beers per player
Shot Glass - 1 per player
Clock - with minute hand all players can see (even drunk)
Timekeeper - someone who can hold their liquor
Bathroom / Transhcan - for those who can't
Preparation:
Sit down, get ready, GO!
Game Play:
The timekeeper shall begin play with the traditional shout of "Uno!"
(meaning 'one' in Spanish). All players will pour themselves a shot
of beer and drink. They have 60 seconds to complete this
operation. Exactly one minute later the timekeeper will announce
the next round of shots and the operation is repeated for 100 units
in a row, or 100 minutes.
During game play, and for 15 minutes afterward, players are not
allowed to vomit. The player doing this will be immediately
disqualified (although they probably won't care at this point).
100 shots is the name of the game. There is no almost. This ain't
hand grenades, folks. 95 doesn't count. 99 doesn't count. If all are
disqualified, you should all go back to yo mamas' teats, 'cuz you
ain't ready to be welcomed into the club.
Once reaching 100 shots, the player must refrain from puking for
an additional 15 minutes to be considered welcome to the 100
Shot Club.
If a player needs to utilize the facilities, as it were, he or she must
make up all missed shots within a 5 minute period upon returning
to the table, all 100 shots to be completed by the 100 minute
timeline.
Strategy:
Eat bread, crackers, pasta, nuts, and other starchy foods about
3-4 hours before attempting this. Don't eat right before or you'll be
needing the trash can. Choose a lighter beer. Bud, Bud Light, Lite,
etc. Guinness and Foster's usually don't work too well in this game.
Optional Rules:
No optional rules. Failure is not an option.
Those who complete the 100 shot club feel a certain bond with
current club members, it's kind of like it's own special
brotherhood. Good luck, and I hope to welcome you soon.
