MOROCKDONG F.A.Q (version 1.0)

Q1: What the f*#k is 'Morockdong'?

A1: Morockdong is an area of land located at the end of the Wandiligong valley near Bright in north east Victoria, Australia. Morockdong is situated in the Australian Alpine mountain region where two creeks originate. These creeks are the Morses and the Mongrel. The Mongrel Ck joins the Morses which flows through Wandiligong until it combines with the Ovens river in Bright. Morockdong is about 5 km from the town of Wandiligong and around 15 km from Bright.

Morockdong was inhabited by Aboriginal people in the summertime until the 1800s when the gold rush began.
Morockdong and the surrounding valleys were mined and with various methods and the remains of this work can still be found today. Mine tunnels are scattered around the gum tree covered hills and remains of dredging operations are still quite eminent. Morockdong's Blue Hole is quite like a small lake and is an old dredge site from the historical mining days. The blue hole is a water hole that remains full all year round and is home to native ducks and fish and is great for swimming during the summer months.

Q2: What the f#*k does the word 'Morockdong' mean?

A2: It's Aboriginal for something.

Q3: Who owns Morockdong?

A3: The bush land at Morockdong is mostly government or 'crown land' though some of the paddocks are privately owned. Roddy O'Donnell owns the land that surrounds the Morockdong Hut and the Blue Hole paddock is owned by the Peace family. The land near the Morockdong Gate was owned by Roddy who sold it to the Hobbs family. The Hobbs' set up a small settlement with their mobile home and some small sheds but stayed for less than a year.
